Sunday Selections: Sources of Spiritual Power

I think that much exposure to sensuality, banality, and God-absent entertainment does more to deaden our capacities for joy in Jesus than it does to make us spiritually powerful in the lives of the living dead. Sources of spiritual power—which are what we desperately need—are not in the cinema. You will not want your biographer to write: Prick him and he bleeds movies…

One more smaller concern with TV (besides its addictive tendencies, trivialization of life, and deadening effects): It takes time. I have so many things I want to accomplish in this one short life. Don’t waste your life is not a catchphrase for me; it’s a cliff I walk beside every day with trembling.

Read the rest of John Piper’s amazing article here. I love his humility, vulnerability and frankness. And truth. Such truth.

One response to “Sunday Selections: Sources of Spiritual Power”

  1. My dear one,

Thanks so much for sharing this. It is the absolute truth. and we need to heed this.

Here is another nugget from Thomas Watson: All the power of hell oppose us. Satan stands at our right hand, as he did at Hoshua’s(Zech: 3:l) Shall we not be as earnest to save our souls as the dragon is to devour them? With violent affections we shall never resist violent temptations.

We are to receive the implanted word whereby it is able to save our souls. Firey ordeals is the route we take and we have been experiencing a lot of this.

Let’s walk together in this fight of faith.

In His love we can bear up under whatever comes our way.
